VARANASI: The
Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) confiscated a consignment of heroin in Ghazipur on Thursday while two persons were arrested at Rohania in Varanasi with huge consignment of opium on Friday.
During a drive to check vehicles on Mohansarai flyover, 6.80 kg of opium was recovered from a truck. Surjit Singh and Amarjit Singh of Ludhiana were arrested. The truck was impounded.
The opium was being smuggled to Punjab from Bihar. On Thursday night, CBN officials succeeded in nabbing drug peddler
Dilip Kumar Verma in Ghazipur. A team led by the deputy narcotics commissioner cordoned off Jamania Road and started checking the vehicles.
Dilip, a native of Nawabganj, who was heading towards Varanasi, was caught. When the tool box of his motorcycle was checked, 530 grams of heroin was recovered. Its cost is estimated to be around Rs 53 lakhs in international market. The heroin was being taken to Varanasi.
