Police believe the two attacks may be linked, and want to speak to a man seen on CCTV

Police investigating two sexual assaults in St Andrews have released a CCTV image of a man they want to question.

A 27-year-old woman was the victim of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Wednesday 9 April in the Fife town.

An 18-year-old woman was indecently assaulted on Thursday 10 April while walking in the University grounds.

Police have said the incidents may be linked.

Det Ch Insp Pauline McCallum said: "We wish to speak to the man pictured in the images in connection with our inquiries, and anyone who can assist us in tracing him is asked to come forward.

"Similarly, we would ask the man himself to get in touch and help with our investigation.

The first incident took place between 00.15 and 02:10 on 9 April when a 27-year-old woman was raped.

She was last seen walking with a man on Doubledykes Road at about 00:55.

The second incident took place about 01:00 on 10 April, when an 18-year-old student was indecently assaulted while walking in the grounds of St Andrews University.

As the woman walked along a lane between the university sports hall and the David Russell Apartments, she became aware of a man walking behind her, who then grabbed and indecently assaulted her.

The man officers want to question was described as being between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in, wearing a dark puffa jacket with dark tracksuit bottoms and a grey beanie hat.

He was also possibly wearing gloves.
