Indonesian utility taps Chinese partner for natural gas project

JAKARTA -- State-owned power provider PLN (Persero) will partner with a Chinese company and others in a project that involves compressing natural gas and shipping it for use at a power plant.

PLN will invest $140 million to build, operate and maintain necessary CNG facilities. Unlike liquefied natural gas, which requires costly liquefaction and storage plants, CNG is well-suited for transporting in small volumes for domestic use.
