History-sheeter caught 14 yrs after he sedated cops, fled
Fourteen years after he gave Pune cops the slip after sedating them, a history-sheeter wanted in several police stations across Mumbai was finally arrested from Vasai on Saturday.

Imtiaz Amin Hamza Khan alias Faizal Khan, 50, was arrested by the Manickpur police from Ambadi Naka,Vasai, based on an informer’s tip-off.

Khan has a string of criminal cases like kidnapping, extortion, murder and theft registered against him in Cuffe Parade, Bandra, Dharavi and South Mumbai police stations.

After his arrest in 2000, Khan was lodged in the Pune’s Yerwada jail. In January that year, Pune police were taking him to a Bandra court for a hearing.

On returning from court, the team escorting him made their way to Kalyan station to board a train back to Pune, where Khan spiked their cold drinks and escaped, said Inspector K Hegaje of Manickpur police station. Since then, the Pune police have been searching high and low for Khan, who in the meantime changed his identity and even started small businesses in Delhi, Hubli (Karnataka) and Hyderabad.

According to Inspector Hegaje, he got PAN and Aadhaar cards along with 20 other documents under new names to avoid being caught.

On Saturday, after 14 years, the Mumbai police received a tip-off that Khan was in Nalasopara to visit his brother Santosh Bjuvan, and was planning to go into hiding again after making a detour to Mumbai. An informer told them Khan had been spotted at Ambadi Naka.

Manickpur police instantly dispatched a team, who caught him and immediately handed him to Mumbai police.

“We acted immediately after we got information of his whereabourts. Since Khan escaped from Kalyan, we handed him over to the Mumbai police on Saturday itself,” said the Inspector Hegaje.
