Mukhiya's son shot at, condition critical

MOTIHARI: Ratna Kumar, son of late Chunnu Thakur of village Barharwa in Harpurnag panchayat of Mehasi police station in East Champaran was shot at on Wednesday near Bhagwanpur in Muzaffarpur town when he was going to attend his class in a coaching institute in the morning hours. He was admitted to a private hospital at Muzaffarpur in critical condition.
Chunnu Thakur too was killed by six motorcycle-borne criminals at Mehasi block office on December12, 2010.According to police sources, the trial of Chunnu Thakur's murder is in final stage in the court of ADJ-II Motihari. Sushana Devi, mother of Ratna, who is the mukhiya of Harpurnag panchayat said she was getting threats from the accused in the case lodged in jail except for Lankesh Jha. She has already met East Champaran SP Vinay Kumar at Motihari and DGP in Patna and demanded protection but nothing could be done and murderous attack was made on her son allegedly by the members of Santosh Jha gang.
Sadhu Sharan Singh, the prosecution lawyer, said Sushma Devi had lodged a case against 8 accused namely Mukesh Pathak, Shyam Thakur, Pawan Kumar, Gautam Thakur, Nikesh Dubey, Amit Kumar, Rajnarayan Pandey and Lankesh Jha in connection with the murder of her husband. Out of eight accused, Lankesh Jha of Belsand is evading arrest. Mukesh Pathak was arrested by the police along with notorious Santosh Jha in Ranchi. Mukesh Pathak is lodged in Bhagalpur jail.
Sushma Devi said due to fear of Santosh Jha gang, her two sons were living with her relations at Muzaffarpur. On getting information about the attack on her son, she rushed to Muzaffarpur hospital to see Ratna. Anjani Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station, Muzaffarpur, said a case has been lodged in this regard and police are investigating this case. Tension prevails in Mehasi after the murderous attack on Ratna.
