Colbert to visit Letterman's 'Late Show'
The current and future hosts of CBS' Late Show will have a late-night get-together next week.
Stephen Colbert, currently anchoring Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, will visit David Letterman's Late Show next Tuesday (11:35 p.m. ET/PT).
Letterman, who has hosted Late Show for more than 20 years, announced earlier this month that he plans to retire at some point in 2015. Last week, CBS hired the Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning Colbert to take over the show after the departure of Letterman, who gave his blessing to Colbert's appointment.
The visit might give Colbert an early look at where he will be working next year. CBS has not announced where Colbert's Late Show will be located, although the show is expected to stay in New York. Colbert's Comedy Central show also is based in New York.
Colbert will be part of a younger generation taking over the prime late-night time slot on the broadcast networks. ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live moved to 11:35 p.m. last year and Jimmy Fallon took over NBC's legendary Tonight Show from longtime host Jay Leno earlier this year.
