BHOPAL: Doctors belonging to Madhya Pradesh, but have completed their MBBS from outside the state , will not be considered as 'domicile applicants' for on-going counselling for PG (postgraduate) courses, said director of medical education (DME) joint director Dr NM Shrivastava here on Thursday. The counselling was put on hold after a petition in the Supreme Court challenging DME's criteria.
Supreme Court has reserved the complete judgment in the matter, said Dr Shrivastava.
However, the apex court has cited an earlier case wherein validity of a domicile requirement for admissions, was considered only if a student had studied within the state. "MBBS students, who have graduated from outside the state, will have the option to apply through all India quota only," said Dr Shrivastava.
Madhya Pradesh government had opposed the petition stating that it considered anyone born in Madhya Pradesh as its domicile. The petitioner Ishita Dua had challenged the government rule, stating that such students were considered domicile in Madhya Pradesh and also the state where they had studied, thus giving them an unfair advantage.
DME sources said once the judgement is passed by the Supreme Court, DME would declare results of MD and MS, diploma and dental degree (MDS) courses for admission to medical and dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh. The process has already been delayed by about two weeks.
