BJP questions commerce min over FDI issue
VARANASI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday targeted Union commerce minister Anand Sharma on FDI in retail.
Party spokesperson Nalin Kohli sought a clarification from Sharma over the beneficiary of FDI in retail. "Retailers of eastern UP and adjoining states are waiting for his reply," he said. Debunking the Congress claim that the FDI in retail would generate employment and benefit farmers, the party spokesperson said that companies like Walmart had so far managed to generate employment for only 15 lakhs against annual requirement of 1.50 crore job.
"But the UPA-led government claims that it generated employment for 1.50 crore during its five year rule," he said and further added, "In countries like the US, milk producers get 30% price of their products while the rest goes to the company engaged in its retailing. While in India milk producers get 70% price of their product and only 30% goes to companies retailing the product."
Kohli said these facts were enough to clear the picture on FDI issue. Claiming that BJP's policies aimed at benefiting retailers, farmers and generating employment. He said that Modi was talking about generating employment opportunity for 1.50 crore people every year.
He said that party's stand on Muslims is very clear as BJP wants to move ahead with all sections of the society.
