Lawyer alleges Cong candidate did't mention offence in affidavit
VADODARA: A lawyer, who is an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker, submitted an affidavit to Dahod district collector and district election officer stating that Congress candidate for Dahod Lok Sabha seat has not disclosed an offence registered against her in her affidavit submitted with the nomination.
The Congress candidate Prabha Taviad has mentioned NA - not applicable - in all columns pertaining to offences registered against her.
The advocate Manibhai Baria has stated an offence was registered against her when the poll code of conduct was in place for the 2012 assembly polls.
Baria said the offence was registered when Taviad along with other persons had gone to the district collectorate to make representations regarding a rape of a tribal woman at Viramgam. "The charges for this have been framed and the case is pending in the court. This should have been mentioned in the affidavit in part 5 (ii), but has not been done," he said.
Baria said when he wrote to the district collector, he was told to submit an affidavit as per the provisions in the law. "This will be kept with her affidavit and also uploaded, but the district administration should also register an offence. The complainant in the offence registered against Taviad and others was also a government official," he said.
Dahod collector D A Satya said the Election Commission of India guidelines on such issues are clear. "A counter affidavit has to be filed and we are to publish it. We will be doing the same," he said.
