BJP cajoles Congress leaders to end protest
VADODARA: The row over Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) general board meeting not holding any discussions continued till midnight on Wednesday. Congress councillors and workers, who were staging a sit-in at the VMC general board hall left only after senior BJP members came to meet them.
The general board was adjourned soon after it commenced on Wednesday. Councillors from the opposition Congress objected to the move stating that they wanted to raise several civic problems in the meet, but could not do so due to the adjournment.
The councillors began protest in the board room itself and were joined by Congress workers too. The drama continued till midnight and ended only after requests by senior BJP functionaries to end the protest.
Former mayors from BJP Shabdasharan Brahmbhatt and Sunil Solanki as well as former deputy mayor Shailesh Mehta had rushed to the VMC headquarters in the wake of the situation. They assured the Congress councillors that their issues would be taken up in a meeting soon.
The opposition also raised the issue of misbehaviour by a BJP councillor with residents of Navayard, who had gone to meet him over water woes. They claimed that the councillor had insulted them stating that they voted for the Congress councillor Pushpa Waghela from the area and hence should go to her.
