Mark Teixeira 'possible' for Sunday

NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees could get first baseman Mark Teixeira back in the lineup as soon as Sunday.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday night that Teixeira is scheduled to play three innings in a minor league game Thursday. Girardi said Teixeira took a full batting practice Wednesday at the Yankees complex in Tampa, and also ran the bases.

"Sunday is definitely a possibility," Girardi said.

Teixeira, who missed most of last season with a wrist injury, played only four games this year before going on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

Closer David Robertson, on the disabled list since April 7 with a groin strain, still expects to be ready to be activated next Tuesday, the first day he's eligible. The Yankees open a series against the Boston Red Sox that night at Fenway Park.

"That's the plan," Robertson said.
