Seeded players had a horror day at the BVG India – ATF Asian under-14 series tennis tournament with five of them crashing out of the tournament being held at the MSLTA School of Tennis at Balewadi. The tournament is being organised by the Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association.
Himanshu Mor took home the biggest scalp of the day, handing out a thrashing to top-seed Heman Nama. Mor was at his imperious best as he simply swatted whatever Nama threw at him with absolute disdain. He took the first set 6-1, dropping only a single game, firing his serves accurately and moving Nama expertly along the width of the court.
In the second set, Nama tried to mount a fightback, succeeding partially, taking three games off Mor, but the latter collected himself, using his powerful groundstrokes to take the second, 6-3 and move into the third round. Amit Beniwal, the fifth seed, defeated Harshal Rukhiyar 6-2, 6-3 while Varun Vayko got past Vikram Patil 6-3, 6-1. Second seed,
Tushar Sharma, was downed by unseeded player, Abhishek Shukla, 6-4, 6-2 while Poojan Desai put out Ritvik Bollpalli 6-4, 6-0. In the girl’s section, unseeded Ishwari Mathere put out a display of aggressive and confident tennis to blow away eighth seed, Anaya Thorat.
Mathere took the first set 6-2 before wrapping up the match, taking the second by the same scoreline. Second seed, Ratuja Jadhav, was shown the door by a feisty Shrivali Bhamidipaty. She won the first set 6-1 and then closed out the match in the second set, allowing Jadhav to win only two games, closing the set and match by a 6-2 margin.
