Notes: Ellsbury rests in Game 2

NEW YORK -- While Derek Jeter is in the lineup, Jacoby Ellsbury is getting the nightcap off.

Here is your Yankee lineup against lefty Travis Wood.

Brett Gardner, CF

Jeter, SS

Carlos Beltran, DH

Alfonso Soriano, LF

Yangervis Solarte, 2B

Ichiro Suzuki, RF

Scott Sizemore, 3B

Kelly Johnson, 1B

John Ryan Murphy, C

Michael Pineda, P

Silent Hal: After the Nelson Mandela Plaque press conference, Hal Steinbrenner declined to talk with reporters. He spoke on Tuesday.

Beltran belts another one: In the first game, Carlos Beltran hit a homer for the third straight game. He has done that 10 times in his career. Beltran batted second for the second time this year.

While he prefers to have a set spot in the order, he said he doesn't mind moving around.

Beltran slid into a wall trying to make a catch just past the right-field line in the second. The wall has padding on it, but Beltran slid under and bruised his knee. His said he is fine.

Taking the points: Joe Girardi decided to take the run on the interference call in the fifth inning of Game 1 because there was already one out.

Gardner scored when Ellsbury was tagged out. Since there was catcher's interference, Girardi could have let Ellsbury go to first and had runners on the corners but just took the run and the second out.

"With one out, I think you take the run," Girardi said.

As a catcher, Girardi's glove was nicked by then Pittsburgh Pirate Bobby Bonilla in 1990 as he hit a three-run homer off Paul Assenmacher. Jim Leyland took the three-run homer instead of having Bonilla go to first to load the bases.

26th Man: Shane Greene was added at the 26th man for the second game of the doubleheader. Greene is expected to return to Triple-A Scranton after the game.
