Poll proceedings to go live in selected booths in Bokaro

BOKARO: At least 40 polling booths in Gomia, Bermo and Nawadih blocks of Bokaro district under Giridih constituency will webcast polling live on Thursday.
The facility will help them keep a check on instances of fake voting, rigging and violence in these booths. "Internet connections have been installed in the polling booths for Thursday's webcast. With poll booths going hi-tech, concerned officials would be able to keep a close watch on poll proceedings from their place of work," said U S Singh, deputy commissioner of Bokaro.
Apart from webcasting, 54 polling booths will have video cameras and 231 stations in sensitive zones will have arrangements for still photography. Singh said 15 lakh residents will exercise their franchise in 1900 booths of Giridih constituency, of which 909 polling booths come under Bokaro district.
Proper security arrangements have been made in each booth and micro-observers have been deployed to ensure peaceful polls. Besides, polling agents would be airlifted to the sensitive booths in the constituency.
About 156 polling stations will have good sitting arrangements, sheds and drinking water facility for the convenience of the voters, Singh said.
