Purandeswari to contest from Rajampet on a BJP ticket

Purandeswari, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister late N T Rama Rao, was eyeing Visakhapatnam seat.

NEW DELHI: D Purandeswari, who had quit Congress last month to join BJP, has been fielded from Rajampet in the Seemandhra region instead of Visakhapatnam from where she had won in the last Lok Sabha elections. The BJP, which will be contesting four seats in Seemandhra in alliance with the TDP, has fielded party’s Seemandhra unit chief K Haribabu from Visakhapatnam. The other two names announced by the party on Wednesday are Gokaraju Ganga Raju from Narsapur and Karumanchi Jayaram from Tirupati.

Purandeswari, daughter of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister late N T Rama Rao, was eyeing Visakhapatnam seat. But given her strained relationship with her brother-in-law and TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu, the BJP decided to field her from Rajampet.      ENS
