In Rae Bareli, sister Priyanka showcases ‘ek bara haspatal’

She did not miss the chance to put the blame on the state government for bad roads in the constituency.

GOING village to village seeking votes for her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra began campaigning in Rae Bareli by invoking her grandmother Indira Gandhi, who had contested elections in 1977 and 1980 from here and kept on telling people how AIIMS — “ek bara haspatal” — is coming to Rae Bareli because of Sonia.

Calling Rae Bareli Indira’s “Karma Bhumi” and taking a jibe at “individual centric” politics of BJP, Priyanka placed two options before the public at each of the 11 public meetings she addressed here on Wednesday.

“In this election, you have to choose between two different ideologies. While one is Congress politics of taking everyone along, contrary to this is politics of opposition, which is individual centric, believes in giving power in just one hand. It is politics of communalism and divide and rule. Now you have to cho0se between the two,” she said at Raseta village.

Though, she did not name Modi, she said, “There are certain people, who believe in taking all the power in their own hands, whereas we believe in giving power to all.”

Playing the “emotional” as well as development card while seeking votes for her mother, Priyanka said the rail coach factory, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, FM radio station and highway projects were brought to Rae Bareli with efforts from Sonia. She emphasised in each meeting how AIIMS, “ek bara haspatal” equipped with all facilities, is coming to Rae Bareli because of Sonia.

Festive offer

As Priyanka travelled through bad roads in the constituency, she did not miss the chance to put the blame on the state government. “In past 10 years, the central government constructed roads for you but state government failed to take the responsibility of maintaining them. The central government brought electricity poles but state government failed to bring electricity to you,” she said at Rahi village.
