KANPUR: Additional district and session judge XVth of Kanpur Nagar on Wednesday ordered Chakeri police to register a criminal case against five cops, including station officer Arvind Kumar Singh and S I Neeraj Kumar, under appropriate sections and investigate the matter.
The court passed the order on complaint of Laxmi Narayan alias Deepak Shukla of Police Colony, Harbans Mohal.
In the complaint filed under Section 156 (3) CrPC, Shukla described himself as MA first year student and said that on February 13, 2013, Chakeri station officer Arvind Kumar Singh along with SI Neeraj Kumar and constables Dherendra Dubey, Ram Babu and Rajeev Yadav arrived at his flat and took him to the police station on the pretext of enquiry.
"At the police station cops not only snatched my Sony Erickson mobile phone but also my wallet containing cash Rs 432, two ATMs and some important papers," he claimed in his application. The complainant further stated that the cops demanded Rs 25,000 for his safe release. The SHO later contacted Shukla's mother twice and demanded the money. When his family refused to fulfill the demand they booked him under a fabricated case of car theft.
Shukla claimed that after securing bail, he wrote to SSP Kanpur Nagar stating all facts in chronological order and demanded that a case be lodged against the cops but no action was initiated. In his petition Shukla claimed that he had written letters to chief minister UP, IG police Lucknow, National Human Rights Commission New Delhi and State Human Rights Commission, I G Kanpur zone but none took any initiative.
The court heard his arguments and after perusal of file ordered to Chakeri police to register a case against erring cops and investigate the matter.
