Roger Federer has played a record 57-straight Grand Slams dating back to the 2000 Australian Open, but says he’d miss the upcoming French Open to be at his wife’s side for the birth of their next child.

The Federers made a Christmas Eve announcement that they were expecting a new addition to their family of four. Though Mirka Federer’s due date isn’t known, Roger told reporters on Wednesday that he’s prepared to miss a tournament if necessary.

“It’s a priority for me trying to be there, trying to support my wife. I’ve played enough tennis matches. Missing a tournament or missing a match wouldn’t change anything for me.

As a follow-up, Federer was asked if that would include the French Open.

“[…] Yeah, let’s talk about it when it would happen. At the moment we hope it’s not going to be that way. If it is, that’s what it is, you know.”

When Mirka Federer delivered twin girls in July 2009, tennis timing wasn’t an issue, as the births happened in between Wimbledon and the North American hard court season.

When asked earlier this year if they were expecting another set of twins, Federer replied, ” if [we were], I wouldn’t tell you.”
