Congo: Congo-South Africa joint commission meets in Brazzaville [Pan African News Agency]

(Pan African News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - The second session of the Congo-South Africa joint commission opened on Monday in Brazzaville, the Congolese capital, aimed at developing new cooperation lines between the two countries, a communiqué from the Congolese ministry of foreign affairs said here Tuesday.

The three-day session is being attended by Congolese and South African experts who will examine ways of implementing decisions reached during the first session in South Africa in 2010.

According to the Congolese ambassador to South Africa, Émile Ognimba, cooperation between South Africa and Congo is marked by significant progress recorded in several sectors, particularly mines, agriculture, culture and arts, defence and security, telecommunications, health and transport.

Highlighting the presence of South African companies in Congo, such as the mining company Exxaro, the mobile phone company MTN, the South African Airways and an agriculture company, called Agri SA, Mr. Ognimba said: "The importance of our meeting lies essentially on the need to take our economic relations to excellent political levels, including our common fight against apartheid and colonialism for independence, peace and development." Also speaking at the session, the head of the South African delegation, Mr. Yolisa Maya, said: "the session is an opportunity for both sides to improve ties".
