NASHVILLE, April 16 (UPI) -- Hayden Panettiere recently expressed her shock that she and other Heroes actors were not asked to appear in the series reboot.

The 24-year-old actress and singer spoke to Cosmopolitan in an interview published Tuesday, and told the magazine she found out about the reboot from her cousin. The star portrayed cheerleader Claire Bennet on the show throughout its four-season run.

"It was a shock to me," Panettiere recalls. "I mean, we [original actors] had nothing to do with it; it will definitely be interesting to see how they reinvent that."

"I think it's a whole new set of characters," she speculates. "Who knows? It's a little bit of an interesting feeling because you go, 'That was our show, our home our family,' something that we had a major part in creating as well."

"I hope that they don't have somebody else playing our characters," the actress continues. "That would be a little dagger in the heart. But, you never know. I wish them success in it, for sure."

Panettiere has stayed busy in recent years with her role as Juliette Barnes on Nashville. The actress received Best Supporting Actress nominations in 2012 and 2013 for her work on the show.
