Colchester Museum's Roman treasures go back on display

Some of the most impressive of the town's Roman treasures will be on display when Colchester Castle, home to the town's museum, reopens next month after a £4.2m refurbishment.

Among them will be the Colchester Vase, described by collections manager Philip Wise as the most famous pot from Roman Britain.

The ceramic vase, found in 1848 in a grave at West Lodge in Colchester, depicts a hunting scene as well as four gladiators.

The work on the Norman castle, built on the site of a Roman temple by William the Conqueror, has taken more than a year. Gareth George has been to see the changes.
