Clare’s All-Ireland hero Shane O'Donnell will miss Sunday's Allianz Hurling League semi-final against Tipperary after picking up an injury.

The 19-year-old pulled a hamstring in training and faces four weeks on the sidelines, which would also rule him out of the final, should Clare qualify.

The young forward, who scored a memorable hat-trick in last year’s All-Ireland final victory over Cork, will be a big loss to Davy Fitzgerald’s side.

Meanwhile, Galway captain Joe Canning is expected to make his first intercounty start of the season in their semi-final against Kilkenny.

Club commitments with Portumna and injury have limited Canning's involvement with the county team to just one appearance as a substitute in the quarter-final win over Limerick.

Fellow Tribesman Fergal Moore, however, will miss Sunday's game due to a broken finger.
