Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge was forced off against Manchester city but could make a swift return.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is in contention to face Norwich City this weekend after scans revealed the England international only suffered a slight hamstring strain in the win over Manchester City.

Sturridge was replaced by Joe Allen after 66 minutes at Anfield after appearing to suffer from a hamstring injury which has blighted his campaign.

Having previous spent time out of the Liverpool first team due to a similar injury, fears were rife the 24 year old could miss part of the club's final four games of the season, matches that will dictate their success in winning a first league title since 1990.

But a club statement read: "Liverpool have confirmed they'll give Daniel Sturridge every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of Sunday's Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich City.

"Sturridge has since underwent further assessment with the club's medical team at Melwood and a small strain was detected following a scan.

"The 24-year-old will now undergo a treatment programme in order to try and be available for the trip to Carrow Road."

Having scored 20 league goals this season alongside Luis Suarez, Sturridge has formed one half of the most potent attacking partnership in the Premier League while Liverpool are also closing in on a century of league goals this season.

Four successive league wins between now and the end of the season will deliver Liverpool's first championship for 24 years and their hopes were further boosted after they defeated City 3-2 on Sunday.

This weekend sees the club travel to relegation-threatened Norwich having won 5-1 in the reverse fixture earlier this season and their hopes of repeating that emphatic score line will be significantly improved should Sturridge make a full recovery.
