Missed opportunity for McMahon

Image: John McMahon: Disappointed by result

John McMahon was disappointed Tranmere failed to make the most of their game in hand against Crawley by slipping to a 2-0 defeat.

Goals in each half from Matt Tubbs and Gwion Edwards gave the home side victory. McMahon said: "Back-to-back wins in our previous games hasn't put us safe, we need a win to stay out of the bottom four. "This was our game in hand but it wasn't to be. I can't knock the lads, they had a go and I can't fault them for effort and endeavour." McMahon did feel, however, Rovers were "lacklustre" in the first half and moaned: "Performance levels need to improve if we are going to get something out of games. "Max Power gave away a needless free-kick for the opening goal and was too eager. It was a good finish from the kid (Matt Tubbs). "In the second half we had the best opportunities and we looked a more threatening outfit. Unfortunately, we're taking two steps forward and one back. "Facing Gillingham on Friday will be a tough game and the lads know what to expect to win football matches."
