TV actor arrested for stealing from homes

BANGALORE: She played a villain in Kannada serials, a mischievous lady who steals others' happiness. But Sujata Basavaraj, 40, was a villain in real life too, arrested twice within two weeks on theft charges.
She's turning to be a habitual offender and police suspect she may have been involved in more similar housebreaks.
It all began in April first week when Sujata, a resident of Girinigar, South Bangalore, was detained by Rajarajeshwarinagar police after they suspected her of stealing gold and silver articles from a friend's house."Sujata and her friend Kavita work for the same production houses. While Sujata is an actress, Kavita is on the technical staff. Two weeks ago, they had stayed at two different houses n Vijayanagar and Rajarajeshwarinagar during shooting. They broke open the cupboard when the owners were away and escaped with the booty," police said.
Both house owners filed police complaints about the missing gold and silver articles. "No outsider had gained entry. The fingerprints on the cupboard and other places matched those of Sujata and we arrested her immediately," RR Nagar police said.
Kavita, who was arrested in the first case, is absconding after being released on bail, police added.
Local TV channels aired the news of Sujata's arrest and on seeing the news, her friend Kavana told police that a similar theft had occurred at her RR Nagar house in April 2013.
"We questioned Sujata and she confessed to the crime. However, most of the booty is with Kavita and we're looking for her," police added.
