Sao Paulo's Instagram top 10

If you're heading to Sao Paulo, be sure to check out these top city spots offering great Instagram photo opportunities.

From huge skyscrapers to peaceful parks and street art alleys, Sao Paulo offers plenty for Instagrammers.

Here are the pick of places to snap away at while visiting the largest city in the southern hemisphere:

ALTINO ARANTES BUILDING

Climbing to the top of the Altino Arantes Building, also known as the Banespa Building, is a must and the best place to get a full shot of the city from above.

Inspired by New York's famous Empire State Building, it is here that you can see a striking 360-degree view of Sao Paulo that never fails to impress.

The highest point of the building is accessible from the 33rd floor and then another two sets of stairs will take you to an observation deck. The only hard thing about taking your Instagram here is squeezing up to 40km of Sao Paulo into one small square frame. #banespabuilding #cityscape #skyscraper #saopaulo

PARQUE DO IBIRAPUERA

For attractive water views inside the big metropolis head to Parque do Ibirapuera. It is one of Latin America's largest city parks and an exciting place to visit, especially on the weekend.

It is teeming with life as families picnic, teens skate and others jog, cycle or simply relax by a large beautiful lake with a fountain - perfect for taking pictures. #lake #fountain #park

BECO DO BATMAN

The locals have a joke of calling Beco do Batman "Instagram alley". This lengthy stretch of high-walled properties in Vila Madalena is covered in impressive murals and is a popular spot to take a selfie as well as capture the artwork on its own.

The constantly changing nature of street art means there will be something striking and new with each visit. #streetart #character #painting #vilamadalena

PRACA DO POR DO SOL

Praca do Por do Sol, which means Sunset Square in English, is a small park at the top of a hill. It provides a great view of the west side of the city and is at its best on sunset, as the name suggests.

The area is relaxing and offers a break from the hustle of Sao Paulo. It's also nice to take a bottle of wine to drink with friends while you watch the sun go down. #city #sunset

PARQUE DA INDEPENDENCIA

Situated in the neighbourhood of Ipiranga, this park features a variety of interesting sites such as Museu Paulista, French-style gardens, the Monument to Independence and the Casa do Grito.

However, the most attention-grabbing part is watching the skateboarders make use of the wide asphalt paths. Take your time to get the right action shot while they perform various tricks. #skater #urban #saopaulo

AVENIDA LIBERDADE BRIDGE

For a great shot of the busy cityscape with a view of one the most famous murals in Sao Paulo painted along Corredor Leste-Oeste, go to the bridge on Avenida Liberdade. It's a perfect stop at the end of the day after wandering through the sites of the Japanese community of Liberdade.

Hundreds of little bridges just like this one have been built across the city and they're a great place to stop and take photos while you watch the world pass. #traffic #liberdade #dusk

SAMBA IN JARDIM DA LUZ

You can't go to Sao Paulo without finding someone playing Samba in the parks on weekends. If you stroll through Jardim da Luz on a Sunday you will see a mixture of characters, young and old, performing their favourite Samba tunes, and they are more than happy for you to take a colourful snap as they play. #samba #luz #guitar

AVENIDA PAULISTA

Just two metro stops from Luz you will find Avenida Paulista, the financial centre and major cultural corridor of Sao Paulo. Walk anywhere along the 2.8-km thoroughfare and you will find plenty of historic buildings, cultural institutions or public interventions to take a picture of. #highrise #urban #reflection #avenidapaulista

EVANGELICA ASSEMBLEIA DEUS IPIRANGA

For a gorgeous shot of a European-style cathedral, combined with the classic pattern of Sao Paulo sidewalks, stand at the intersection of Praia do Monumento and Avenida Nazare in Ipiranga.

Here you can capture Evangelica Assembleia Deus from a distance and the typical black and white footpath, shaped in the form of the state of Sao Paulo, in the foreground. #cathedral #checkers #saopaulosidewalkpattern

PIXACAO ABOVE PAULISTA METRO STATION

If you're interested in documenting social statements, make sure you grab a shot of pixacao.

Although many believe pixacao is vandalism, this unique form of graffiti originated in Sao Paulo and is an important part of their cultural and political history. It has a distinctive gothic lettering style and you will find it plastered over many walls and tall buildings across the city. A good place to capture a shot is at Paulista metro station. #pixacao #urbanart #paulista
