Sanjay Dutt’s daughter Trishala (R) was spotted partying with a friend, all sweaty and happy after a Armin Van Buuren concert at Madison Square garden in New York

Chakka jam

Three months after his car was involved in an accident on Peddar Road, which landed the business family in controversy; Ambani scion Akash has been away from the wheel. While his black Aston Martin which was badly damaged in the accident is still lying outside Gamdevi police station, Akash doesn’t drive any of the other luxury cars in his fleet anymore.

According to local residents, Akash is not seen on the high-profile Peddar Road. Akash was a regular on South Mumbai roads past midnight zipping up and down in topend luxury cars like his black Aston Martin (MH-01-BK-99).

The police are yet to arrest the ‘rash and negligent’ driver who created a pile up on the road on a December night but Akash seems to have lost out on his night-riding. Police claim that the CCTV footage from the night and forensic evidence from the car are inconclusive.

Changing room

The imminent change in the voice of command in the capital has triggered a game of musical chairs in several media houses. For instance, it is being speculated that Rajdeep Sardesai, whose term with Network 18 may be tapering off later this year, is considering several offers.

One of the strongest bidders for his expertise is Naveen Jindal, who has been bullish about his media ambitions, with a little help from his fatherin-law Abhey Oswal, who owns 14.17 per cent in NDTV, as a part of his burgeoning broadcasting business. Insiders claim Sardesai put in his papers at least on two occasions last year, over management and ideological issues. All eyes are on Bhupendra Chaubey, who is tipped to be Sardesai’s successor. Watch this space for more.

One for the award

Sooni Taraporevala, who was in Delhi recently to collect her Padma award, took some time off for a taste of Old Delhi. The eminent screen writer was accompanied by her husband Firdaus Bativala (the Breach Candy resident whose patients lovingly call him the Da Vinci of dentistry), her kids Iyanah and Jahan (who was seen in Little Zizou), and her friend, and fellow Padma awardee (2013), photographer Pablo Bartholomew.

The merry bunch had initially planned to hit the original Karim’s at Jama Masjid, Jahan’s favourite eatery, but had to give it a miss since on Sundays there is not even enough leg space there. We spotted them outside Karim’s in Nizamuddin, looking sated after what had eventually turned into a celebratory dinner for the two winners of the highest civilian honour.

Tailpiece

During his session at the Times Lit Fest last year, William Dalrymple had the pleasure of addressing a bunch of actors in his audience, who were quite obviously pitching for a role in the film adaptation of White Mughals, to be directed by Ralph Fiennes. Now we hear, the writer-historian-Indologist has another fan in Aamir Khan, who called him up yesterday to say that he loved his other book, Last Mughals, which he had just finished reading. Dalrymple returned the compliment on social media, saying that Aamir is the one guy who should actually make a film on the book. Is there a bigger announcement in the offing?
