TORONTO — Canada’s Space channel has acquired the Syfy zombie drama Z Nation from the Sharknado producer The Asylum.
The Canadian sci-fi cable channel will debut Z Nation in fall 2014, as will Syfy.
The series hails from Eureka producer Karl Schaefer, who will serve as executive producer and showrunner of the 13-parter.
The drama is described as an action-horror series that depicts the epic struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse.
The Asylum’s current project, Sharknado 2: The Second One, premieres July 30 on Space.
“For us there is no choice in Canada other than Space, which has been home to our slate of outrageous, sci-fi, action-adventure titles since the beginning,” David Rimawi, partner in The Asylum, said in a statement Tuesday.
The acquisition deal was hammered out by David L. Garber, CEO of Lantern Lane Entertainment, on behalf of The Asylum, and Brook Peters, director of programming, entertainment specialty, at Space-parent Bell Media.
