Sebes, DaimlerRomania – The upcoming assembly plant will handle the new Mercedes-Benz 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission from 2016. The total investment at Sebes, amounting to €300m ($414m), will involve the creation of a 500-strong workforce.

Automatic transmissions for Mercedes-Benz are manufactured in the production network operated by the OEM’s Untertürkheim plant in Germany and its Romanian subsidiary, Star Transmission. The 9G-TRONIC has been made and assembled at Untertürkheim since last year.

“The additional assembly capabilities in Sebes supplement our production operations at the Mercedes-Benz Untertürkheim plant optimally,” commented Markus Schäfer, divisional board member Mercedes-Benz Cars. “They are also an important contributing factor in the economics and the flexibility of our international production network.”
