KANPUR: The district election officer also met the grain traders and assured them that their problems would be solved soon. The officials had been directed to gear up the pending work at Galla Mandi so that preparations must be completed and checked before the deposition of EVMs after polling.
In previous elections, the district election office took polytechnic for depositing EVMs after polling and counting.
On the day of counting, normal traffic between Rawatpur and Kalyanpur used to get affected. Keeping it in mind, the district administration had decided to hold counting at Galla Mandi (grain market) this time. Polling for Kanpur would be held on April 30 while for Akbarpur parliamentary seat, people would cast vote on April 24.
Charged: Several contestants, whose nomination papers were cancelled on technical ground, demanded postponement of election.
Shakir Ali, the candidate of Janta Dal (U), Ashutosh Brahmachari (Rashtriya Ahinsa Manch), Iqbal Siddiqui of Nirdhan Samaj and a couple of Independent candidates had alleged that their nomination papers had been rejected on baseless ground. They said minor mistakes might have taken place but that could be rectified on the spot.
