Bank of Valletta has extended its role as the Main Partner of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna (FWA), a foundation which is very much active in the field of heritage preservation and the creation of awareness about the cultural heritage of the Maltese Islands.

Bank of Valletta CEO Charles Borg met Mario Farrugia, CEO of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna at Bieb is-Sultan in Vittoriosa where two FWA volunteers displayed replica knight’s armour and the fighting techniques of that era.

Thanking Bank of Valletta for its support, Mario Farrugia explained that the Foundation manages sites that span 7,000 years from pre-history to the 20th century. ‘Although small in size, Malta can boast of a cultural treasure-trove that obviously requires a large amount of funding to restore and maintain’

‘We would like to take this opportunity to invite the general public to become ‘Friends’ of the foundation through a small donation’ continued Mr Farrugia. ‘Friends’ of the Foundation gain unlimited access to all sites managed by the FWA as well as discounts on the Foundation’s main events.’

‘Bank of Valletta can trace its history for over 200 years and as Malta’s Community Bank is deeply rooted in our heritage’ said Mr Borg. ‘Although we are very much a forward looking institution, we are proud of our roots and it is with great pleasure that we support initiatives which seeks to  safe-guard Malta’s priceless heritage.’

‘Indeed we are indebted to organizations like Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna whose tireless work ensures that our historic treasures can be enjoyed by this and the future generations.’

Through the collaboration with Bank of Valletta, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna will be organsing a number of exciting events that include a Military Festival, open days at all the major FWA sites and the annual open day at Fort Rinella where the unique 100 ton gun is fired.

Further information about  Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna and the historical sites they manage and how to become a ‘friend’ of the Foundation can be obtained from the FWA website www.wirtartna.org.
