Special Anzac screening of War Horse

Special Anzac screening of War Horse
Commemorate Anzac Day and the World War I centenary with MTG Hawke’s Bay’s first screening of National Theatre Lives’ War Horse on Wednesday 23 April 2014 at 6pm at MTG Century Theatre.
Preceding this special screening, MTG Friends are invited to join Eloise Wallace, Public Programmes Team Leader at 5.30pm, for a free illustrated talk on the remarkable role of animals in the First World War. This talk will be based on Eloise’s research for the Imperial War Museum’s Animals in War exhibition (2006 – 7). Refreshments will be served prior.
Based on Michael Morpurgo's novel and adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford, War Horse takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France.
Filled with stirring music and songs, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness.
At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.
The original production of War Horse opened at the National’s Olivier Theatre in 2007 and transferred to the West End in 2009. It has since been seen by 5 million people around the world – including productions on Broadway, in Canada, Germany and Australia. It is currently on tour in the UK, Ireland and North America, with a new Dutch language production set to open in Amsterdam in June.
