The BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, on Sunday sought an answer from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the news across social media that he was almost ready to give up Siachen under pressure from foreign forces.

Addressing a public meeting here, Mr. Modi said the social media was abuzz with news that the Prime Minister, pressured by foreign forces, was ready to give up Siachen. “I don’t know if it is true or not but the news can’t be neglected,” he said.

Wondering if the nation was being kept in the dark, Mr. Modi said the Prime Minister must clarify whether there was any such deal in the offing on Siachen. Noting that he was not making any criticism, Mr. Modi said the Prime Minister owed an explanation to the country.
