Police chief orders thorough probe into Kejriwal attacks

The investigation into the Dakshinpuri incident, when Kejriwal was slapped by Jamia Nagar resident Abdul Wajid, did not point towards the involvement of another party.

During questioning, Wajid had told police that he had slapped Kejriwal after the party had promised to protest against the Muzaffarnagar riots, but had failed to do so. Police said Wajid, who had joined the party six months ago, seemed to be telling the truth.

Police said the Southeast district is investigating the case against Wajid.

Lali, the other man to have slapped Kejriwal within days of Wajid’s attack, had actively worked for the the Aam Aadmi Party during the Delhi Assembly elections last year.

Sources said he had joined the AAP a few months before the elections and had taken part in several rallies organised by the party.

“As of now, our investigation does not reveal Lali to have been motivated by any rival politician. It appears that he acted on his own. Investigation is still underway,” an investigating officer said.

Bassi refused to comment on the matter and said the investigation was underway. “We always conduct a thorough probe. I will comment only after the investigation is completed.”
