Small films throw hat in the ring for National Awards
Have you heard of Telugu movies titled: Adbhutha Cine Rangam, Amma Neeku Vandanam, Oo Malli, Parampara, Pranaya VeedhiloPorade Prince, The Clue and Yugmali? Perhaps no. But these are the films that are in the reckoning for the 61st National Awards which will be announced on May 3.
Not just these, the final list of entries for the National Awards has a slew of such little known films.
It does look like a turn around of sorts. Small filmmakers often find themselves at loggerheads with the big ticket ventures when it comes to finding enough theatres to release their movies. Many of these films managed to release in a handful of theatres across the state. However, at the upcoming National Awards ceremony big ticket films will have to fend off stiff competition from the little known small films to bag top honours. Also in the race are experimental feature films like Prema Katha Chitram, Kamala tho Na Prayanam, Anthaku Mundu Aa Tharuvatha
For once, small films far outnumber the big ones in the list of entries for the National Awards. Only three big films Mahesh Babu-Venkatesh multistarrer Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, Pawan Kalyans Attarintiki Daredi and Prabhass Mirchi are pitted against 17 small films in the fray. The films will have to fend off competition from a total of 310 films from 27 languages that are in contention for Awards in 30 categories. It will be interesting to see if any Telugu film will go on to emulate Rajamoulis Eega which bagged two National Awards last year.
Some of the little known films that are in contention for National Awards are :
Adbhutha Cine Rangam Amma Neeku Vandanam Kamalatho Na Prayanam Minugurulu Naa Bangaru Thalli Oo Malli Praynaya Veeddhilo Porade Prince Sri Jagadguru Aadi Shankaracharya Swami Vivekananda Yugmali The Clue Parampara
