Santhanam wanted me to compose for VPA: Siddharth
Siddharth Vipin came up with a couple of chartbusters in Idharkuthaane Aasaipattai Balakumara (aka Idhaaba) and this, he says, fetched him the offer to compose music for Santhanams Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham (VPA). I got a call from the production house informing me that Santhanam and director Srinath wanted to meet me. So, I went to the shooting spot of one of Santhanams films. He told me that he was impressed with my songs for Idhaaba, and wanted me to compose the music for VPA in which he plays the lead, recounts Siddharth.
The composer says that unlike his previous film album, which had a distinct sound, this one has songs in various genres. The album has five songs a hero introduction number, a melody, a kuthu song, a wedding song and a theme music, he lets out.
For the introduction song, Siddharth recorded Mukesh, whose voice, he says, perfectly suits Santhanam. Since Santhanam is playing the hero, the intro song will not be too larger than life and at the same time will not be trivial, he adds. Lyricist Lalith Anand has used one of the catchphrases from Santhanams comedy track, Takkaru Takkaru, for this mass number. Another one of the actors popular lines Chellakutti bujjikutti has been used for a full-on kuthu song, which is part of a dream sequence in the film. I have introduced a new singer, Vishnupriya Ravi, who I spotted through a TV reality show, in this song. She has earlier sung some choral portions and a bit song in JK Ennum Nanbanin Vaazhkai, for which Im doing the background score. This will however be her proper debut, he reveals.
Naresh Iyer and Shreya Ghoshal have sung a melody, which revolves around travelling. Naresh is a good friend and I always make him sing a song in my films. As for Shreya, every composer in India wants to get her to sing their song and Im glad I got her for this, says Siddharth.
The theme song has been sung by Ananthu who has worked with MSV sir for a long time, while Karthik has sung a wedding-based song written by Madhan Karky. Santhanam was always present during the composing along with Srinath and we bounced ideas off each other. This team work has helped us come up with a commercially appealing album, he concludes.
