Alize Cornet came through a tense and lengthy battle with Camila Girogi to win the final of the Katowice Open and her fourth WTA Tour title.

The fourth-seeded Frenchwoman, a wild card at the Polish tournament, had ousted home favourite Agnieska Radwanska in the semi-finals, and used her confidence from that win to take the opening set on a tie-break against first-time finalist Girogi.

The Italian hit back to level a topsy-turvy encounter with a decisive break in game 12 of the second, but the title looked to be Cornet's when she raced into a 3-0 lead in the decider.

However, the 22-year-old Girogi, ranked 69 in the world, managed to claw back the deficit until a further break eventually wrapped up a 7-6 (7/3) 5-7 7-5 victory for Cornet after over three hours on court.
