Murder convict and former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar plans to file a second case review after a newly elected president replaces President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
urder convict and former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar plans to file a second case review after a newly elected president replaces President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
'The case review will be filed after Yudhoyono is replaced,' Antasari's lawyer, Boyamin Saiman, said on Friday at the Constitutional Court.
Antasari was sentenced to 18 years in prison for masterminding the murder of Nasrudin Zulkarnaen, former director of PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran.
Antasari's first case review request was rejected by the Supreme Court in 2013 on the grounds that a case review could only be filed if there was new evidence, as stipulated by the Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP). A case review can only be requested once. However, the Constitutional Court granted his request for a second case review in March.
Boyamin said that Antasari was a victim of the ruling regime and, therefore, filing a request for a case review at this time would be useless.
He added that in the first case review, Antasari had filed sufficient evidence that showed he was not involved in Nasruddin's murder. However, the case review was rejected by the Supreme Court.
Antasari, he said, would wait patiently for the right moment to file his request with the Supreme Court.
'We're not worried about five months, we can wait for a year,' Boyamin said. (idb)
