Virar local overshoots Goregaon station

In yet another incident of a local overshooting a platform, seven coaches of a Virar-bound train sped past Goregaon station on Saturday before the motorman realised that the train was supposed to stop there. No services were affected as the incident occurred at 6 am.

Officials said that this particular train runs as afast train between Churchgate and Andheri, after which it halts at all stations. Due to this, the motorman momentarily forgot that the train was supposed to stop at Goregaon, but soon after realised his mistake and applied the brakes. However, the train was already half-way across the station by then.

The incident comes close on the heels of the Shailendra Kumar, divisional railway manager of the Western Railways, issuing a controversial ‘appeal’ to the families of motormen, asking them to allow their employees to rest and not involve them in household chores. Mirror had reported on the appeal on Saturday. Motormen have been complaining that they are working under stress due to the pressure of having to handle additional services in the limited network.
