What happened: Naitasiri proved too strong for Nadi winning 25-21 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori in the opening round of the Skipper Cup yesterday.
The ‘Hillmen’ staged a fightback after being downed 8-11 in the first half to secure victory.
Big Play: Naitasiri flyhalf Kini Douglas made a huge impact in the match. Douglas scored the second try which resulted in the side regaining the lead in the match. The nippy flyhalf powered his way beating Nadi tacklers to score the important try for the side.
Star Turn: Naitasiri prop Veresi Daku scored the crucial try in the match to put the game beyond Nadi’s reach.
Comments: Naitasiri Coach Eroni Vereivalu praised the players for their performance.
“We got a young side and they played well to win the match.
“There are a lot of raw talents in Naitasiri and they have made us proud with this level of performance in the opening match.
“Our players were able to improve on their performance in the second half which resulted in the win.
“The young players have the good potential to play for the national team if they continue with this level of performance.”
Nadi Co-coach Cohen Politini said they missed the services of their key players.
“Majority of our senior players including the players from the Vodafone Fiji 7s side played in the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s.
