IMPHAL: Repolling in six booths of the Outer Manipur constituency in Senapati, Chandel and Ukhrul districts took place peacefully on Saturday. Till 5 pm, the poll percentage was recorded at 70.
Amid heavy security arrangements, voters made a beeline for the six stations - Lambung and Molnoi in Chandel district, Keihao Tangkhul, Kapao and Phaibung Khunou in Senapati and Sanakeithel in Ukhul.
Eighty armed security personnel were deployed at each of the stations to thwart any attempt to capture booths and disrupt poll activities. Following large-scale malpractice at these stations during Wednesday's polls, the Election Commission (EC) ordered the repoll. Of the six stations, Molnoi, Keihao Tangkhul, Kapao and Phaibung Khunou were found to have polled more votes than the number of voters listed in the respective electoral rolls.
While the EVM machine installed at Lambung station was destroyed by miscreants, Sanakeithel polling station witnessed booth rigging.
On the other hand, former Manipur People's Party chief Nimaichand Luwang joined BJP on Saturday, along with 8 others.
