Chirodini Tumi Je Amar 2 Movie Review

Money, as they say, alters the perception of reality. It frequently crosses swords with another elemental force — love. This eternal battle has been reflected in cinema over the ages.
Chirodini Tumi Je Amar 2 reflects the good, the bad and ugly sides of this battle. Here, these eternal forces are brought together by friendship, lust, greed and vengeance, making the characters as helpless as puppets.

So when Bhanu Sardar (Arjun Chakrabarty), a poor man from Purulia, ends up in Kolkata's urban jungle and falls for a housemaid, Jyoti (Urmila Mahanta), you can feel that the road ahead is doomed. His love becomes the victim of wealth and greed. Even as their track plays out, you get a window into the life of another couple. Raj’s (Bihu Mukherjee) is a rich and spoilt adolescent with lustful intentions towards sweet and innocent Shreya (Ena Saha). As their loves mingle, wealth seems to triumph over love. But, does it in the end? For that you have to watch Chirodini Tumi Je Amar 2.

Everyone, starting from Arjun, Bihu, Urmila, Ena and especially Riddhi as the indomitable Rakhal make you feel that the future is bright. Arjun’s Bhanu, with his vulnerability and innocent smile, has set a high standard for the actor himself. Riddhi has been proving himself for a long time, especially on stage. Though his body language sometime becomes a bit too theatrical, his character has the backing of the script.

As for Urmila — she plays the timid and unfortunate Jyoti — her eyes do all the talking. Bihu comes across as a pleasant surprise. He is suave, soft-spoken, evil to the core and oh-so-believable. The elders, particularly Kharaj Mukherjee as a cop, Sumit Samaddar as the employer who gives the lost boys shelter and Soma Chakrabarty as Jyoti’s hard-working mother, guide these youngsters along.

However, director Soumik Chatterjee, can’t resist some OTT touches with both background score and music. The music, instead of being dark and edgy to match the film’s mood, is soaked in the mushiness of the melodious ’90s. The same can be said about the background score — excessive use of weepy flute will remind you strongly of tearjerkers. Moreover, the film is half an hour too long.
