Early Childhood Leadership (ECL) Research Symposium(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LONDON, Ontario, April 11 -- Fanshawe College issued the following news: On Friday, April 11, 2014, 78 students and their faculty from Fanshawe, George Brown and Sheridan Colleges showcased their individual final year research projects at the second annual Early Childhood Leadership (ECL) Research Symposium. The symposium demonstrated to educators, community advisors and industry partners how a degree in Early Childhood Leadership fosters and reinforces professionalism for students, faculty and the early years' community. This event showcased the quality research of the students while illustrating the need for further research in the area of child development and early years' education. Many of the graduating students go on to study in Bachelor of Education or Master of Education programs across the country. Other graduates work directly in early years settings taking on supervisory or management roles. "With the recent recognition and investment in the early years comes a need to enhance the educational standard for this field, and an important part of this enhancement involves understanding the research process and its application to the early years," says Fanshawe professor Sandra Lackenbauer. Fanshawe President Peter Devlin made the opening remarks, followed in the afternoon by keynote speaker Karen Calligan, Child Care Advisor in the Ontario Ministry of Education. About the Early Childhood Leadership program at Fanshawe This four-year baccalaureate program includes studies in early childhood development, early childhood pedagogy, program implementation and developing leadership skills. Applied learning in case studies, research, field placements, one fourteen-week work term and fourth year integrating capstone courses provide students the opportunity to assimilate knowledge in the field and further develop a skill set to foster and guide quality improvement in early childhood environments. Graduates are prepared to guide and lead curriculum and pedagogy in Ontario's Early Years settings, other family support programs and early intervention services.
