The district administration has sent a show-cause notice to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat over his recent speech that allegedly asked voters of a particular religion to vote for the BJP.

Addressing presspersons on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer A.B. Ibrahim said the notice was sent on Friday, and Mr. Bhat had three days to reply. He said the complaint alleged that at a speech during Ugadi celebrations on March 31, Mr. Bhat had asked the majority community to support the BJP.

Meanwhile, two notices have also gone to M.N. Rajendra Kumar, president of South Canara District Credit Cooperative (SCDCC), who is also the Public Relations in-charge of the Congress, for allegedly misusing his position as the head of a public institution. While one notice pertains to the usage of photos of Congress leaders in a Ugadi-related advertisement on the website, the other is the allegation that the bank’s mobile financing scheme is accruing money for the Congress party. The two cases have also been reported to the City Police for possible violation under the IT Act.

Till Saturday, 55 complaints of Model Code of Conduct violations and 20 instances of liquor transportation or storage have been registered in the district.
