victim allegedly injured by a stray police bullet filed a complaint at the Medan Legal Aid Institute (LBH) on Friday as the bullet has been lodged in his neck for three weeks.
The victim, Zulfi Hendri, said the incident took place on March 17 at around 9:30 p.m., when he was riding pillion on a motorcycle being driven by his friend on Jl. Asia Mega Mas in Medan. According to Zulfi, a police officer in the area shot at a robber who he was in pursuit of at the time, but missed and hit Zulfi instead.
'We will thoroughly investigate the case and report it to the North Sumatra Police's Internal Affairs Division, the National Commission on Human Rights and the National Police Commission,' Medan LBH executive director Surya Adinata said.
Separately, North Sumatra Police chief spokesman Sr. Comr. Heru Prakoso said that Zulfi should report the case to police. However, Heru expressed suspicion as the case was reported three weeks after the incident took place.
'The case should have been reported to police right when it occurred. We will take responsibility by providing treatment for him if the incident was committed by a police officer,' Heru said. 'We will thoroughly investigate the case. If it's true that a member of the police shot the victim, we will take action,' said Heru.
