Residents: No development, no vote
BANGALORE: "No development. No vote." This is the slogan raised by residents of Maruthi Nagar, Bhadrappa Layout and Balaji Layout in north Bangalore.
All set to boycott the polls, the 2,000-odd residents are fed up with bad infrastructure in their areas. From potholed roads to insufficient drinking water supply, there are problems galore, they complain.
For one, the Bhadrappa Layout-Kodigehalli Road has been in bad shape for many years. Second, drains overflow frequently and the problem becomes severe during monsoon. "Storm water drains and sewage pipelines have been blocked for many years.
Despite reminders they haven't been cleaned," says a resident.
KP Subbaiah, president of the RWA, had the last word: "We will submit our complaints to the Election Commission of India. Of the 2,000 members in our association, which at least 1,000 will not vote this time."
