Early Buzz: Nirvana, 'Girl Meets World,' Scrabble, more
Happy Friday, everyone! It's been a busy week, and I hope you have big plans for the weekend. (Mine involve buying a dining room table. Exciting!) How 'bout some headlines?
- I'm glad CBS picked the best person to replace Dave: Stephen Colbert.
- Holy moly. After last night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, a reunited Nirvana played for 200 people a tiny club in Brooklyn. The video is wonderful; Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent, J Mascis and Deer Tick's John McCauley took turns singing lead. Amazing.
- Here are details on Michael Stipe's Nirvana speech and Nirvana's performance during the ceremony. Stereogum has some video, and our pal Neil (@futurerocklgnds) tweeted the whole thing.
- FXX is going to air a huge marathon of every episode of The Simpsons.
- Amazon has acquired digital comics site ComiXology, which I hope is a good thing. (I hope they don't change it too much, because it's already very well-organized and well-run.)
- Here's a fun time-lapse video of an SNL taping.
- And Scrabble's first crowd-sourced word is ... "geocache."
- Charlie Sheen is headed to WEtv.
- Watch a new "red-band" 22 Jump Street trailer.
- The ladies of SNLtalk to Cosmopolitan.
- Watch the Girl Meets World trailer. (I think I'm too old to understand the hype for this ...)
- Watch The Simpsons' Mad Men-themed promo.
- Hear Arcade Fire cover Blondie's Heart of Glass.
- Adam Scott and Alison Brie appear in a funny new ad.
- Rob Lowe did a Q&A on Reddit. (Here's a version that's easier to read.)
- What would famous album covers look like in reverse?
- Hey, it's a brief history of "Choose Your Own Adventure." (Thanks, Zack.)
- And finally, it's "everything Chunk eats in The Goonies."
