Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. the 88th ranked 'Fortune Global 500' company won the prestigious BML Munjal Awards for 'Business Excellence through Learning and Development' for year 2014 for consistently used training, learning & development as a source of competitive advantage. IndianOil was adjudged the winner of this coveted award in the Public Sector category in a glittering ceremony held recently at New Delhi.

Mr. R S Butola, Chairman accepted this award on behalf of IndianOil family. He was accompanied by Mr. B Ashok, Chairman designate and ED I/c (Retail Sales); Mr. D Sen, Director (P&BD) designate and ED I/c (Lubes) from Marketing HO; Mr. Satish Kumar, Advisor (HR); Mr. Biswajit Roy, ED(HRD), CO; Mr. S.Mukherjee, ED (CC), CO and Mr. BK Ray, GM, IiPM . Training & Development Heads from Divisions were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Butola pointed out that during the last two decades, the Corporation's refining capacity increased by over 100%, marketing volume by over 100% and pipelines capacity by over 200%. The sustained increase in manpower productivity was attributable primarily to the learning & development initiatives taken up by the Corporation apart from factors like improvement in refining technologies and large-scale automation. The Organization has mastered the art which enabled it to do more with less, he added. At the end of the day, technologies do not learn on their own nor does the automation operate by itself; it is the human resources which assimilate the use of technology and automation to improve productivity, he said.

The prestigious awards are named after the Hero Group Chairman and Padma Bhushan Awardee - Dr. Brijmohan Lal Munjal - a leader who has built a business conglomerate worth billions of dollars from scratch. The ninth edition of the award were given in three categories - Public Sector, Private Sector (Manufacturing) and Private Sector (Services).

This year, IndianOil has been adjudged as the winner of this coveted award in the Public Sector category. It was in 2009 when it won this award for the first time.

The final jury comprised of industry luminaries like Mr. Hemant M Nerurkar, Tata Steel , Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva, ONGC, Mr. Arup Roy Choudhury, NTPC, Ms. Shobana Kamineni, Apollo Hospitals, Mr. C.S Verma, SAIL, Mr. S Ramadorai, National Council on Skill Development, Dr. Vinayshil Gautam, KPMG and Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Hero MotoCorp Limited and Hero Corporate Service Limited.

Tata Steel emerged as the winner in private sector (Manufacturing) category and India Hotels (Taj Group), another TATA group company was the winner in private sector (services) category.
