Tribals rain arrows on forest staff; 2 injured, 5 nabbed

Tribals attacked two forest staff with arrows in Dewas forest range on Wednesday. Five people, including two women were arrested and injured were admitted to MY Hospital.

INDORE: Tribals attacked two forest staff with arrows in Dewas forest range on Wednesday. Five people, including two women were arrested and injured were admitted to MY Hospital.
Dewas DFO Saeed Khan said upon getting information about deer hunting in Panni village range in morning, a team of was sent for rescue of wild animal and to stop hunting.
By the time forest official reached the spot, villagers had attacked a deer with an arrow.
When forest official tried to rescue the injured deer, villagers from Kannod, armed with bow and arrow, attacked the team in which deputy ranger Amarnath Verma and a forest guard Murli Das sustained injuries. The team did not give up, chased hunters and caught two of them and later few more were arrested. One hunter also sustained arrow injuries.
Khan said injured deer was rescued and brought to rehabilitation centre at Dewas. The injured forest employees were sent to MY Hospital for treatment and the condition of the two is stated to be out of danger.
Kannod police said a dozen bow, a few dozen arrows, knife and other arms were seized from their possession and booked them under section of Wildlife Protection Act for hunting and sections of IPC for attacking forest officials. The accused were identified as Chandra alias Jagu, Kallu Nal, Vikram Nal, Ramu Bai and Sarju Bai.
