Jethmalani campaigns for Vaiko

April 06, 2014 03:06 am | Updated November 27, 2021 06:55 pm IST - MADURAI:

A ‘valued friendship’ weighed more than political considerations, as MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Saturday got the expelled BJP leader and well-known lawyer, Ram Jethmalani, 90, to campaign for him in his Virudhunagar constituency.

Mr. Jethmalani, 90, flew down to Madurai from Mumbai at Mr. Vaiko’s invitation. The former Union Minister canvassed support for the MDMK leader at three indoor meetings.

Earlier, addressing journalists here, the senior lawyer said he was on a mission to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister, as he saw the Gujarat Chief Minister as the only leader endowed with the qualities of being honest and efficient. “Not even his worst enemies can claim he is corrupt or dishonest. That he is efficient, again nobody denies. The only fabricated charge against him is that he is communal,” Mr. Jethmalani said.

Likening Mr. Vaiko to Mr. Modi, he said: “Vaiko is highly educated. He has gone to the best universities and best colleges. Apart from his learning, he has character. I have never heard anybody say that Vaiko has done anything dishonourable. He also has the third important quality of being secular.”
